Your privacy

No Location in Your Photos, No Names in Our Emails & A Block Button That Means It!
Let’s talk about something rather important, darling.
We know that for many people exploring the lifestyle, privacy isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s essential.
Work, family, friends and everyday life don’t necessarily mix with being part of the swinger community. You might be perfectly comfortable meeting new people, attending parties and making connections, but that doesn’t mean you want everyone knowing what you’re up to.
We get that.
That’s why we’ve put considerable thought into how Spice Me Up Lucy handles your personal information, photos, messages and interactions with other members.
Your Photos Don’t Give Away Your Location
Did you know that photographs taken on your phone can contain hidden information?
It’s called metadata, and it can include GPS coordinates showing exactly where a photograph was taken, as well as information about your phone and when the picture was captured.
Not something you’d necessarily want to share with someone browsing your profile!
That’s why every photo uploaded to Spice Me Up Lucy is rebuilt on our server, stripping out hidden location and device information before the image becomes available.
So even if your original phone photograph contained GPS coordinates to your work, those details don’t travel with the image you share on our site.
We don’t want your holiday snaps accidentally revealing your home address, thank you very much!
Your Photos Stay Behind Closed Doors
We don’t store member photographs in the ordinary public image folders used by conventional websites.
Your photos are kept separately, under scrambled filenames, in protected storage. They can’t simply be opened by copying an image address into a browser.
Every time someone attempts to view a photograph, our website checks their permissions.
Are they logged in? Have they completed their profile? Are they allowed to see this particular image?
Only then is the image made available.
And remember, you decide who gets to see your photos:
- Public: Visible to eligible, logged-in Spice Me Up Lucy members.
- Friends Only: Visible only to members you’ve accepted as friends.
- Only You: Private to you, although you can selectively share individual photos through private messages.
Public doesn’t mean publicly available on the internet. Your member photos aren’t simply sitting there for Google or random visitors to discover.
We also have additional protections around videos, which are hosted separately through a specialist private video service.
If you’d like the technical details, have a look at our Photos & Videos page.
No Names in Our Emails
We know that email notifications can sometimes appear in places you’d rather they didn’t – on a shared computer, a phone sitting on the kitchen bench or a notification popping up while someone else is looking over your shoulder.
That’s why our email notifications are designed to be discreet.
We don’t put other members’ names or identifying details into your email notifications. We simply let you know that there’s something waiting for you on Spice Me Up Lucy.
For example, when someone sends you a message, we’ll give you a discreet notification rather than putting the sender’s identity or the contents of the conversation into your inbox.
We also batch many notifications together rather than sending an email every time something happens.
Some time-sensitive notifications, such as someone declining an invitation to an event you’re hosting, are sent immediately. Others are grouped together to keep your inbox manageable.
You can control which email notifications you receive through Settings.
One little reminder, though: email notifications can still reveal that you’re a member of Spice Me Up Lucy. If you share an email account or device with someone else, it’s worth considering your notification settings and keeping your email account secure.
Block & Filter – You’re in Control
Now, this is something I feel quite strongly about.
Not everyone you encounter online is going to be someone you want to interact with. That’s life!
You might prefer not to receive messages from particular people, or perhaps there are entire categories of profiles you’d rather not encounter.
That’s why we’ve given you both Block and Filter controls.
You’ll find them under People in the navigation menu at the top of the page.
Blocking Individual Members
If there’s someone you don’t want contacting you, you can block them.
Once blocked, they can’t send you messages or join the same group chats as you.
It’s a straightforward way to stop unwanted interactions with a particular member.
Filtering Out Entire Profile Types
Perhaps you know that you’re not interested in receiving messages from certain profile types.
For example, you might be a couple who only wants to hear from other couples, or you might prefer not to receive approaches from solo males.
You can use your profile type filters to exclude the categories you’re not interested in.
Filtering by Age
You can also filter out members based on age ranges.
You choose the age range you’re comfortable with, and profiles outside that range are filtered accordingly.
There’s one little detail worth understanding if you’re browsing couples and polycules.
When a profile contains more than one person, we look at the youngest and eldest ages within that profile. If either person falls within your selected age range, the entire profile is included.
The same principle applies when filtering out age ranges: if any individual within a multi-person profile falls within the excluded range, the whole profile is filtered out.
So, for example, if you’re excluding people aged 25–35, a couple aged 32 and 42 will be filtered out because one of them falls within that range.
Your Location Is Your Business
Spice Me Up Lucy is designed to help you meet people and discover what’s happening in your area, but that doesn’t mean we need to broadcast your precise location.
Members can see the city or general location associated with profiles and events, but we don’t expose your home address.
For events, the actual street address stays hidden until the host accepts you onto the Coming list.
It’s another small but important way we help protect members’ privacy while still making it possible to organise real-world get-togethers.
You Control Who Sees the More Personal You
Not everything needs to be shared with everyone.
You can keep your main profile photographs relatively discreet, share more identifiable pictures with friends, and reserve your most private images for yourself.
As you get to know people, you can choose to share individual private photographs through messages.
And if you’re comfortable making friends with someone, they’ll be able to see the photos you’ve reserved for Friends Only.
It’s all about having choices.
We’d encourage you to take your time, get to know people and only share more personal photographs with those you’ve come to trust.
And please remember that someone sharing a private photograph with you is trusting you to respect their privacy. Don’t redistribute their images without permission.
A Little Reality Check
We take privacy seriously, but we also believe in being honest.
If someone is authorised to view a photograph on their screen, there’s always a possibility they could take a screenshot or photograph that screen using another device.
We have measures to discourage casual downloading and copying, but no website can completely prevent someone capturing something they’ve been allowed to see.
Likewise, keeping your account secure matters. Use a strong, unique password, don’t share your login details and be mindful when using shared devices.
Privacy works best when the website does its part and members do theirs.
A Community Built on Trust
Ultimately, we want Spice Me Up Lucy to be a place where people feel comfortable being themselves.
You shouldn’t have to worry about your holiday photos revealing your home address, your email notifications announcing your membership to the world, or unwanted people continuing to contact you after you’ve told them no.
We’ve tried to build those considerations into the way the site works, rather than leaving you to figure everything out yourself.
We’re here to meet people, make friends, explore and have some fun. A little discretion and a lot of mutual respect make that possible.
And that’s the sort of community Gage and I want to build.
Look after yourselves, look after each other, and enjoy the adventure.
